16 Days until Race day. Officially the signup is closing tonight. During last nights meeting we agreed to keep signup open until next weekend, if any Yukon Musher still feels the itch to hit the trail.
Ed Hopkins form Tagish Lake Kennel is the latest Musher to sign up. Ed ran his first Yukon Quest in 1993 for none other than Susan Butcher. Ed has been down this trail 9 times during the Yukon Quest. Ed has also run numerous run many mid distance races. Matter of Fact he just won the Silver Sled in Haines Junction a few weeks ago, posting the fastest runtime on both legs of the race. He is always fun to have around on a race and often good for a hearty laugh. Like before this years Silver Sled, realizing, that he had dogs, harnesses, gear and all, but no gangline. Fellow Mushers of course came to rescue…..
Undeniably with a 28 year history in races he could be considered an ” old timer “. I am sure he has his sights set on doing well in the 2021 Yukon Journey.
Work behind the scenes for the Yukon Journey is continuing. Didier Moggia, who many of you know from being involved in the races as a trail breaker has also been working hard on making the Yukon Journey a reality. Take a look at these cool belt buckles he has designed and produced: The mushers will get one for finishing the race. To the public they are also available for purchase for $ 100 to help out the race.
